Do you remove wallpaper?

Yes. Wallpaper removal is one of the areas we have a lot of experience in. We will remove the wallpaper, patch any cracks and prime the wall surfaces with an oil-based primer which is the favored primer for wallpaper installers to hang new paper.

Should I have my walls or floors completed first?

It's best to start with the ceilings first and move to the walls and other areas of your home.

We have drywall damage. Do we need to have the repaired before the painters come?

We are all experienced in drywall repair and replacement. Most minor repairs that need to be made can be done as part of the preparation work before we do any painting.

Is there anything that you can put into the paint to help prevent mildew?

There are special chemicals that can be added to the paint which are designed to help with this problem. However, it usually involves more than a simple additive if the mildew is an ongoing problem. Mildew will grow in a damp and shady area with poor air circulation. Bathrooms will greatly benefit from an open window and a vent ceiling fan. Other areas may be as simple as frequently cleaning the area.

I have oil based paint on my trim now; can I switch to a latex based paint?

Absolutely. However there are necessary steps that must be taken. In order to assure success you must prime everything that has an oil base coat with a specific type of prime. Only use a contractor who is knowledgeable about those steps and one who is willing to explain the proper procedures to you.

What kind of surface preparation is done?

Any and all damages that are done to your walls are filled and sanded. All cracks are properly filled and sanded. Caulking is inspected around all windows and frames, doors and door frames and re-caulked as needed. Crown molding, chair rail etc. are all caulked and properly prepared. All nail pops are repaired and sanded. Any water stains, crayon marks etc. are sealed before painting and grease and heavy dirt accumulations are cleaned. Any mildew that is present will be cleaned prior to painting.

The house doesn’t look that bad. Why should I repaint?

A house is a lot like an automobile in the fact that the investment is large and the maintenance is a must. If we don't wait until the engine blows to check or change the oil we can protect our investment.

How often should you have to paint the interior of your home?

Many factors can contribute to that.
The quality of the paint used is very importance.
The amount of traffic through a particular area.
Whether or not there are smokers in the home.
Is there a fireplace that is used on a regular basis during the winter months?
If you have small children?

There are many factors to consider, and each home can vary. A good quality job done by a professional crew under normal conditions should last anywhere from 4-8 years. You are more than welcome to give us a call and will be happy to evaluate your particular situation and offer you a more precise answer.

What if I don’t like the color I picked?

We at AW want you happy at the completion of our job. But sometimes regardless of the quality of work done, you may be unhappy with the colors you choose. Take your time on color selection and only use a company that is willing to assist you in making those decisions. Ask for color charts ahead of time and buy a quart or so of paint to try it on a couple of different areas of your home. If for any reason you are still on happy with the color, we will happily repaint everything for you at a much smaller cost.

What is the difference between a flat and a satin finish on the interior of my home?

Flat and stain finishes are typically used on walls and ceilings. Flat paint hides imperfections on walls and can generally be touched up; however, they can not be cleaned. Satin paint has a higher sheen, does not hide imperfections on your walls well, and cannot be touched up. It can, however, be cleaned with soap and water. Satin paint should be used mainly in kitchens, bathrooms, and high traffic areas. Flat paint is popular on ceilings, in low traffic areas, and two story walls.

How is my property protected during painting?

Drop cloths, plastic covers and other protective coverings are used on all areas that are being worked in. We make sure every room is as clean after our work is completed.

Does someone have to remain home while the work is being done?

No, in fact most people are not home during the day and arrangements can be made in advance to accommodate your schedule. Our employees are bonded, insured and screened with criminal background checks- so you can feel confident.

How many workers will be in my home?

While every job is different normally you can expect a crew of 2-3 AW employees.

I’m getting different estimates from various companies, why do the prices vary so much for the same job?

The simple answer is that not all painting services do the same quality of job. If you were to have your vehicle painted you would discover prices ranging from $99.99 to several thousands of dollars. Home painting is quite similar.

There are multiple levels of quality and services available; however, sometimes it's difficult to know exactly the quality of work you will be receiving. Assuming all of your estimates are from honest reputable licensed and insured companies, the major difference in prices may often be directly associated to the amount of surface preparation your painter will complete prior to the paint being applied.

Surface preparation, when done properly, is very detailed and consumes a lot of time and work which can at times take as much as 75% of the time needed for the entire job. Since much of this "prep" work gets covered up once the surface is painted, this is the area where many painters can and will cut corners. It is simple math to understand that if painters can cut the amount of time spent on your job, they can offer you a lower price.

If you are dealing with a company that isn't able to provide you with referrals, make sure you get a detailed list in writing of what he is going to do for you rather than making your decision based on a price written on the back of a business card.

Does Atlanta Wallcovering guarantee its work?

Absolutely. We guarantee our work for at least 2 year. If for some reason a problem arises with the job, it will typically be within the first year. If that is to happen we will fix it immediately.
